Combo Fields / Finishers Guide

Postby TDP-Trucks » Fri Sep 07, 2012 10:01 am

Here is a chart explaining all combo fields:

and here is one explaining what moves will work with the fields:

So when we are in a party certain people should be watching certain classes for there combo fields.

eg. Warriors, rangers, engineers and thieves should be watching for guardians, elementalists, necros and mesmers dropping fields and popping their finishers through them.

Made a big difference to me on my thief when I started standing next to / behind cloth classes as I was naturally firing through their fields.

I have no idea how these fields and finishers work... Can anyone explain what happens? :/

Lets say me and you are fighting someone.

Me: Lays down my fire ring ability which does damage to enemies and buffs you.

You: Fire your projectile attacks through the circle and they get added effects, in this case "fire", which do extra damage to the target.

You: Drop one of your wells on the enemy.

Me: I do my combo finisher (which is labelled as such on mouse over), in this case leap of faith. I leap to the target making sure that i pass through your well. Your well adds an extra effect to my attack related to the well you dropped.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

So an elementalist turns up...

Ele: Drops a healing well

You: drop a well on top of that

Me: Drops my ring of fire on top of that and jump through all 3 rings to hit the enemy.

Result: I hit for normal damage + sets them on fire + adds conditions from your well + heal everyone nearby. By going through all the "combo fields" dropped my attack creates a combo move doing more damage, adding conditions and boons to us!

Does that make sense?

You can even do combo moves by yourself. IMO thieves have the coolest one.

They fire black powder blinding the target, they then leap through the black powder using death blossom. This gives them stealth as they pass through it making their attack and sneak attack and because the black powder adds a combo of blindness the target gets blinded again!

I looked on the charts you linked initially and it seems Necros dont really get anything good. None of the spells in my rotation are on there!

S'all about dropping the fields with the cloth classes. Also, you only need to worry about the combo stuff when your doing group stuff that makes it worth while.

Well, i seem to quest a lot with Spack and i always put down flame circles so all of his moves burn the target, by doing that it increases my damage as well because more-a-less every fire move i have increases the damage if the target is burning!

Aye pairing a 'mentalist (lol) with a ranger makes great sense because the combos match up pretty well.
